Be aware that scammers are making chargers to credit cards that look like real purchases!
I was hit by these people, I however, was lucky that I noticed the charge on my account and took action. The tactic is to make low value chages to your account so that you don't notice. After searching around, other people who were hit by this scam said that the charges were under $10. I was charged $2.95 as you see below.
Here is the info of the company that charged me.
Merchant Name: ELECTRONIC BUSINESS RE
Merchant Type: BOOK STORES
Date of transaction: 04/22/08
Amount of authorization: $2.95
Apparently there front is a e-book store. After contacting my credit card company I got the costumer service number for the company. When I called, there was a message saying that I needed to send a email to: service@ebsebooks.com
After searching the term ebsebooks, there was no doubt this was a credit card scam.
If you see charges that you are unsure about, tell your credit card company that you want more info about the charge. Do some searching using the name of the company or the website, use what ever info you have and you can discover more information to help.
Is your computer protected? Most people think they are protected, but the fact is, that most people are NOT protected from the new threats that keep appearing on the internet every day.
Many people believe that bad things will not happen to their computer because they think, "we are not some big company", and "why would anybody want to hack my computer?".
Keep yourself protected, use proper safety software such as anti-virus, anti-spyware, and a firewall. It is just as important to update your safety software regularly as it is to have it installed.
Some of the most common safety products have an auto-update feature that will keep the software automatically updated. This is a feature that can save you some time and stress.
